Herzog & Higgins The Delhi Durbar: elephant carriage of the Maharaja of Rewa at the Retainers' Review, 7 January 1903 The great durbar of 1902-3, organised by the Viceroy Lord Curzon, was as much a celebration of British rule in India as a commemoration of the Coronation of Edward VII. Photographers gathered from all over India to record the processions and ceremonies which took place in a specially designed amphitheatre during the first week of 1903. Detail of ceremony photgraphParticularly spectacular was the state carriage drawn by elephants in which the Maharaja of Rewa processed in order of rank before the representatives of the British Crown.
