Roof boss, St Pancras Church, Widecombe-in-the-Moor The 'Hunt of Venus' is of obscure origin although the symbolism is not. It is composed of three rabbits, some say they are hares, which were very important in the Dartmoor area, being the main food of the tin miners who worked the moor. The threefold image refers to the Holy Trinity. Looking carefully whilst the rabbits appear normal, they share only three ears between them. The image is also known as the 'tinners rabbits'.
