Ponies grazing on Longwater Lawn, New Forest. This alluvial lawn either side of the Beaulieu River (little more than a stream here) floods in the winter, and the silt deposits fertilise the lawn. In the summer it is a popular place for the ponies to graze, as can be seen in this photo.
