Foal suckling, Hampton Ridge, New Forest This male foal is very unlikely to spend his whole life roaming the New Forest like his mother. When the ponies are rounded up in the annual drifts the young males are sold at auction. Restricting the number of stallions out on the Forest means that the pony population (size and quality) can be controlled.
