Located at the west end of Geary Boulevard, at Land's End, facing both the Golden Gate and Ocean Beach, this area hosted Sutro Baths, a legendary bathhouse at the turn of the 20th Century. The baths eventually declined with widespread availability of indoor plumbing in many homes, and a fire destroyed the buildings for good in the 1960s, leaving this ruin for curious visitors to explore today. Historic Cliff House (with its modern renovations) in the background, and a beach party in the foreground. San Francisco in July is chilly and gloomy - even for a beach party it's necessary to wear long sleeves, sweaters, and footed tights. And the girl's dog had just given me a welcome lick.
